For
the first significant Bike trip of the year, Bill & Joan Bike the Four
Corners. Our trip starts out in Durango, Colorado where Spring is finally
taking hold on April 15, 2000. The Goldwing is all spiffed up and we are determined
to get some touring practice in for the big San Diego trip on April 28.
From Durango, we go west to Cortez and then south 2.7 miles on 666 (highway
of the beast). Turning right at the airport, there is a road that shows as
gravel on all AAA maps. However this road has been paved for a few years and
makes a great shortcut to Utah's canyon contry. Just follow the signs to Hovenweep
Natl. Monument.

We missed our turn and wound up in Bluff where we lunched at the Twin Rocks
Cafe. See sidebar.
From Bluff, we went south to Arizona and then back through Farminton and the
La Plata highway home.

There you have it, one day, 4 states. All told we only grazed the edge of
canyon country. When I do it again, I'll be sure to allow two days with an
overnight in a sandy wash.
Cap'n America.
