Two friends went to the Yucatan to explore the attractions off the beaten
path. Our destinations were Isla Mujeres, Chichen Itza, and Tulum. OK Chichen
was a very well trodden path, but bear with me and check out the next few
pages of pictures and adventure stories.
NOTE: Most of the pictures will produce a larger copy if you double click
on them.
Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women, is a laid back destination that is easily
reached from Cancun. We stayed at the Cabanas Maria Del Mar. This is a nice
but very basic hotel, don't expect any views of the sea as the rooms have
small windows about 5 feet off the floor.
The grounds however, are drop dead beautiful, as demonstrated by la touristas
in the photo.

Isla has many real Mexico attractions. My favorite was the walled cemetery
at the north end of town. We got there after dark and only had a few moments
to appreciate it before it closed.
Isla is small enough to walk most everywhere, but if you intend to be there
a few days get a scooter or bike and explore the whole island.
The best restaurant by far is the Balcone De Ariba on the second floor in
the center of town. Ask for directions. During your dinner, a colorful and
humorous mariachi will show up accompanied by his invisible, singing dog.
